AWS QuickSight Issues
In the process of recreating dashboards, you always come across some type of issues with tool’s functionality. Here, let’s understand some AWS QuickSight issues which I have faced during recreating Tableau dashboards using AWS QuickSight as below.
- % of Total Stacked Bar and Line Combo chart
Stacked 100% bar chart and line combo chart visual object is not available in QuickSight.
As shown in “Tableau Fig. 1” you can create % of Total Stacked Bar and Line Combo chart in Tableau but as shown in “QuickSight (Fig. 2)” the stacked bar is not appearing as % of total in QuickSight.
2. Table Calculation and Calculated As — Functionality
In Tableau, you can apply ‘Table Calculations’ and ‘Compute Using’ to measure objects in vertical and horizontal bars, vertical and horizontal stacked bars, and table as shown in “Tableau (Fig. 1)” for vertical bar. Whereas the same capability is limited to only Pivot table in QuickSight as shown in “QuickSight (Fig. 2)”.
3. Custom alignment of Column headers and values in table
You can align column headers and values as shown in “Tableau Fig. 1” below. You tried to implement the same in QuickSight, but it is either taking the column data types into account or does a selected alignment for all columns. Please refer “QuickSight (Fig. 2)”.
4. Font family, font size and Tooltip formatting
You see limited font family and size options in “QuickSight (Fig. 2)” as compared to Tableau “Tableau (Fig. 1)“.
5. Date range selection with slider control and calendar objects
You can create a date range filter with slider control and calendar objects as shown in “Tableau Fig. 1” below.
You are able to implement filter without slider control in QuickSight as shown in “QuickSight (Fig. 2)”.
6. Download/Export filters in QuickSight report to PDF
When downloading a dashboard view in PDF, the filter values (default or selected) are not appearing in pdf as shown in the below figure.
7. Decreasing height of Filter objects
You can decrease the height of the filters, minimizing the white space between the filter name and the drop-down as shown in the below figure.
You want to place 14–15 filters on the right-hand side of the dashboard (in Tiled layout view) without increasing the overall height of the dashboard and the visualizations within it.
8. Download/Export multi-page QuickSight report to PDF
When downloading a report in PDF, only first page of the report is getting downloaded. When viewed from QuickSight, this report runs down to multiple pages.
9. Show column headers for table with no data
Tableau should have the ability to show/hide the column headers when there is no data. But as per Fig. 2, QuickSight cannot visualize the column headers and thus have no information on what this visualization is showing.
